This earl grey infused old fashioned is an English inspired twist on a classic. You can change the tea to chai or any other black tea to make this cocktail your own!

Ingredients:

Syrup:

1 cup water

1 cup sugar

2 earl grey tea bags

Infused Bourbon:

2 cups of bourbon (I used Woodford reserve)

4 earl grey tea bags

Cocktail:

2 ounces of earl grey infused bourbon

.5 ounce of earl grey syrup (this makes the cocktail on the sweeter side for an old fashioned but you can taste the chai/brown sugar flavor very well, feel free to adjust)

3 dashes of orange or angostura bitters

Lavender and orange peel for garnish

Let's Assemble!

Essential Equipment

My cocktail shaker is from Etsy, they are out of stock at the store that I linked but there are other cute ones available at other shops. I wanted a glass and gold one so that you can see the contents of the shaker in my video. Any basic set will suffice. I have seen them at thrift stores and they are always available at Target and other stores with a home goods section.

My jigger is from Williams Sonoma, it was expensive for a jigger but I love it! The are available for much cheaper in other places and you can also measure using a shot glass since this is such a simple ratio.

For the syrup:

The easiest way to make a syrup is to boil water in a tea kettle, pour one cup of boiling water into a safe container, I usually use a yeti or coffee cup but used a glass measuring cup here.

Add one cup of white sugar and stir until the sugar is dissolved.

Add 2 earl grey bags and steep for 5-6 minutes.

Remove tea bags, let syrup get to room temperature and transfer to fridge. It will be good for up to 6 months. Throughout the whole holiday season!

For the infused bourbon:

Add two cups of bourbon to a container. Add 4 tea bags  and let sit for 8 hours.

Remove teabags and transfer to freezer or fridge.

For the cocktail:

In a glass container combine the infused bourbon, tea syrup, and bitters.

Add ice cubes and stir to combine.

Add large ice cube to a rocks glass.

Pour cocktail over the large ice cube. Add star anise and cinnamon stick for garnish! Enjoy!
